The Russian House in Dhaka organized the “Immortal Regiment” and “St. George Ribbon” events

On May 8, 2024, the Russian House in Dhaka in cooperation with the Association of Russian Compatriots “Rodina” in Bangladesh, organized a large-scale historical and patriotic event “Immortal Regiment” and “St. George’s Ribbon” dedicated to the 79th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War.
At the beginning of the event, the Director of the Russian House in Dhaka P. Dvoychenkov, the Ambassador of the Russian Federation to the People's Republic of Bangladesh A. Mantytskiy, the President of the Association of Russian Compatriots “Rodina” E. Bass noted in their speeches that the “Immortal Regiment” action has entered the world history and this popular initiative has become a unique example of civil unity and continuity of generations.
After the beginning part of the event, a large-scale ceremonial auto-moto rally was held through the central streets of Dhaka, in which more than 50 motorcycles and 30 cars took part.
At the same time, volunteers and students in different places on the city streets handed out black and orange ribbons and explained to people that it’s a symbol of memory and respect for the winners of the Great Patriotic War.
Local residents reacted with great interest to what was happening; especially when they found out that the event was organized by Russia.
This year the number of participants was more compared to previous years. There were more than 200 people in the event. Among them were journalists, compatriots, volunteers and university students in Bangladesh, representatives of the Association of Soviet Alumni of Bangladesh and the Liberation War Academy Trust, employees of the Russian Embassy in Bangladesh and citizens of the country. All participants received commemorative baseball caps and T-shirts with the symbols of the “Immortal Regiment”.
Today the “Immortal Regiment” carries the tradition of preserving the memory of the Great Patriotic War and personal family stories. Millions of people around the world still have the opportunity to remember the heroism of their ancestors, the sacrifice they made for freedom.
