A solemn social and cultural event dedicated to the 94th anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore’s visit to Russia on Tuesday (September 24, 2024) the Russian House in Dhaka organized a solemn social and cultural event dedicated to the 94th anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore’s visit to Russia. Director of the Russian House in Dhaka P. Dvoychenkov in his welcoming speech recalled that Rabindranath Tagore’s visit to the USSR was made possible thanks to the efforts of the All-Union Society for Cultural Relations with Foreign Countries, the successor of which is Rossotrudnichestvo. Impressions of his stay in Soviet Russia were reflected in “Letters from Russia”, where he described the improvements of the new young state. In recognition of his literary merits, many of his works were translated into Russian, and the text of his novel “The Last Poem” was written into a song for the famous Soviet film “You Never Dreamed”. Rabindranath Tagore was a multifaceted, talented personality with a worldwide reputation. The ideals and philosophy of Rabindranath Tagore are shared by the younger generation in Russia. Tagore’s journey to Russia was a testament to his belief in the power of art and literature to transcend borders. He interacted with the Russian spirit and intellect, creating connections that resonate today. Through his work, he has inspired countless people to seek harmony and understanding in a rapidly changing world. Speakers quoted Rabindranath Tagore’s “Letters from Russia” that he had traveled to many countries around the world, but the visit to Russia was especially significant for him. Rabindranath Tagore was known to the Soviet people as a great writer, a tireless fighter against colonial oppression and war, and an ardent supporter of national unity and peace. They also expressed the opinion that this visit was a harbinger of future friendly relations between Russia and Bangladesh. In the second part of the event, the participants were shown the Soviet feature film “You Never Dreamed”, directed by Ilya Frez, about the relationship and love of teenagers - a very touching, sweet and kind film about the first love of high school students Katya and Roma.
