Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus today reaffirmed that the next general election will be held between December this year and June next year.

He said this while addressing the nation on the occasion of Independence Day and upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr.

"Regarding the elections, I have said before, and I reiterate, that the election will be held between December this year and June next year," he affirmed.

Expressing his commitment to a free and fair electoral process, Prof Yunus said, "We want the upcoming election to be the most free, fair, and credible in Bangladesh's history."

He added that the Election Commission has already begun necessary preparations, and he hopes political parties will engage in the process with enthusiasm.
Prof Yunus said in his speech that the process of gathering opinions from all political parties through the Consensus Commission is currently underway.
"The objective of the commission is to identify areas where political parties reach a consensus and compile them into a list. The parties that agree will sign this document, which will be known as the July Charter," Prof Yunus stated.

He emphasised the caretaker government's responsibility to ensure transparency throughout the process and to hold elections once the process is complete.
