Chief of Army Staff General Waker-Uz-Zaman today visited Dhakeshwari National Temple to oversee the security measures taken there ahead of Durga Puja celebrations.
During the visit, he extended greetings to the Hindus on the occasion of Durga Puja, the biggest religious festival of the Hindu Community in Bangladesh, said a press release of Inter-Services of Public Relations (ISPR) here.
The army chief exchanged views with the leaders of Dhaka City Sarbojonin Puja Committee, Bangladesh Puja Celebration Parishad and others concerned at that time.
He said Bangladesh Army, according to the instructions of the interim government, has taken necessary steps to ensure the safety and security of all during the celebration of the Durga Puja festival by keeping the law and order situation under control.
As part of this, the army has been deployed in all districts across the country to ensure security of places of worship, he said.
The army chief expressed the hope that Bangladeshi belonging to the Hindu religion would be able to celebrate their Durga Puja festival in a festive mood and with great enthusiasm.
He called upon all belonging to others religious community apart from Hindus in the non-communal Bangladesh to come forward and extend cooperation to this end.
