Ambassador Waliur Rahman has explored darkside of Pakistan in his new book potraying crisises amid militarisation of a state over last seven decades.

The book - Pakistan on the Brink - launched on Saturday, brings new dimension of historical research also touched different avenues of Bangladesh Liberation war 

Addresssing the launching ceremoney of the book, Academicians, researcher, diplomates and diginitoties luaded the courageous role of amabbasedor Waliur as a writer. 

The book brings the failure of Pakistan's politics, economy and foreign policy due to the militarization of the government system through simple word crafting.

The speakers highlighted Pakistan's dysfunctional government, decaying judiciary and the brutal consequences of military rule.

National University former vice-chancellor Prof Harun-or-Rashid gave a welcome speech in the discussion.

He said author Waliur Rahman, keeping the politics of Pakistan at the center, has highlighted the various stages of civilization of the military-controlled country based on research-based data.

Professor Haroon said the writer has made shed light on the failure of Pakistan's politics and economy in the light of his diplomatic life experience.

In the book review, the academic highlighted the rise of terrorism in Pakistan and the direct intervention of the military in destroying the democratic system.

Ambassador Waliur Rahman has researched and written the book for eleven years, Professor Haroon suggested adding some new information to the book.

Ambassador Waliur Rahman said that the book's content attempts to portray the dominance of the military in Pakistan's governance and policy making.

He said that this is a problem that has put the Pakistani state in perpetual crisis and the military has kept Pakistan's democratic future in the dark by hindering the development of democratic institutions.

Justice AHM Shamsuddin Choudhury Manik in his speech referred to Pakistan as an 'exporter of terrorism' to the world.

He said Pakistan has not yet forgotten the sadness of defeat with Bangladesh.

"The defeated forces of 1971 are still trying to spread influence in Bangladesh. I would request the government to increase vigilance at Pakistan embassy in Dhaka," he said.

Ambassador Waliur Rahman honored three scholars in the publication ceremony. The honorees are heroic freedom fighter Mofidul Hoque, Dr. MA Hasan and Ekattorer Ghatak Dalal Nirmul Committee executive president Shahriar Kabir.

Among the guests, former foreign minister Abul Hasan Chowdhury, Justice AHM Shamsuddin Choudhury Manik, BIISS chairman ex-ambassador Munshi Faiz Ahmad, Bangladesh Heritage Foundation co-chairperson Shahrukh Rahman, vice-chairman Prof Farhad Hossain and Sampriti Bangladesh convener Piyush Bandyopadhyay participated in the discussion.

Ambassador Waliur Rahman's writings revealed the governance system of Pakistan, which is entangled in an impenetrable complex web of corruption.

The writer highlighted the tragic fate of Pakistan's institutions.

"One wonders how a state abandons the path of truth and justice and indulges in the game of making the rule of law a mere mockery. This is the process of sealing the downfall of a nation," he said.

Waliur Rahman resigned from the Pakistan Embassy in Switzerland in 1971 in protest against Pakistan Army action in East Pakistan. His career spans diplomacy and academia.

His diplomatic service included key roles in cities like Geneva, New York, Jakarta, Rome, Jeddah, and Tunisia.

Waliur Rahman, a former foreign secretary, served as special envoy of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
